Important Linux
Support Information for "Secured By Check Point"
Partners
April 2007
Update
As previously communicated, we are working on updating
the Linux Kernel used in SecurePlatform as well as
the Linux Kernel supported by our product lineup
(VPN-1 (aka Power), Connectra etc.). We are sharing the
below information so that you can plan accordingly.
1. Our latest product R65 has just
been released. It is identical to R62, R61 and R60
in terms of the Linux Kernel support. Specifically:
-
SecurePlatform is still
based on Linux Kernel 2.4.21+
-
No VPN-1 support exists for Linux
Kernel 2.6
-
Support exists for "legacy" Linux
Kernel versions 2.4.9, 2.4.18, 2.4.20
2. The next major release following
R65 is not named yet and the release date is unknown
(perhaps 2 quarters or more out). In this post-R65
release there will be some significant changes.
Specifically:
-
SecurePlatform for this release
will be based on the 2.6.18 Linux Kernel (aligned
with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5).
-
VPN-1 will support both the 2.6
and 2.4.21+ Kernels
-
VPN-1 will NOT support "legacy"
Linux Kernel versions 2.4.9, 2.4.18, 2.4.20
3. We recommend all partners
start migrating to a 2.6 Kernel if you aren't using
SecurePlatform. If you are using
SecurePlatform, the 2.6 Kernel should support your
hardware even better than the current iterations
but, we suggest you begin testing and planning
accordingly.
4. The last release that supports
the 2.4.21 kernel will be our post-R65 release
mentioned in item number 2.
5. The last release that supports
"legacy" Linux Kernels (2.4.9, 2.4.18, 2.4.20)
is R65.
6. If you are interested in testing an Early Availability version of SecurePlatform
(based on 2.6.18 Kernel) please contact us.
