Company Description: BrightCloud, Inc. OEMs its next generation web filtering database to enterprise security vendors in the security appliance, enterprise security application, end point security, enterprise security application, wireless, email, and xSP spaces. BrightCloud extends the value propositions of web filtering across the internet’s Long Tail – the 450 million Websites visited by enterprise customers – which includes both the most popular sites as well as those sites less frequently visited, but visited nonetheless. BrightCloud uses the latest in machine learning algorithms, as well as human classification, to build the largest (over 50M sites) and most accurate URL database available. By integrating the BrightCloud services, OEMs can provide their end customers with a richer, multi-layered security solution.
Key Features and Benefits
BrightCloud Web Filtering, Check Point Edition is a next generation web filtering service, and when deployed with Check Point Firewall-1, has compelling features and benefits:
Extends web filtering value propositions across the internet’s Long Tail: Security, productivity, legal liability and conservation of IT resources are the key value propositions enabled through the product, and extended across the many millions of web sites not covered by the leading web filtering vendors;
Industry’s Best URL Database: The BrightCloud Master Database is the largest (over 50 million) and most accurate web filtering URL database in the world, as validated by West Coast Labs in their June 2007 competitive comparison with the market leaders;
Real Time Updates: BrightCloud provides real time updates for URLs which enables URLs which change categories- for example from benign to malicious because they’ve been hacked and are downloading malware- to be updated rapidly;
Rich Policy Implementation: Includes policy management for over sixty categories, including key security categories such as malware, phishing and other frauds, bot nets, spyware and adware, and others;
Key Features: Incorporates key features such as black\white lists, keyword blocking, custom categories, and traffic logging;
Broad Language Support: The BrightCloud Master Database provides coverage of the major European and Asian languages and others, including German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Armenian, with others to be added;
Lower TCO: No additional hardware or software is required to take advantage of the BrightCloud Web Filtering product, reducing the total cost of ownership involved in integrating web filtering into a Check Point FireWall-1 solution;
OEMable Implementation: This product is a reference client implementation for OEMs- source code is available to facilitate fast and easy implementation of an integrated client on third party hardware or software security solutions- this makes it easy for third party vendors to incorporate web filtering into their broader security solutions;
Cross Platform Support: Integrations are available for both Windows and Linux.
OPSEC Integration
URL (Uniform Resource Locator) filtering provides precise control over web access, allowing administrators to define undesirable or inappropriate web pages. VPN-1/FireWall-1 checks web connection attempts using the URL Filtering Protocol (UFP) API available in the OPSEC SDK. The BrightCloud agent maintains a cache of URLs and their categories (for example, alcohol, gambling, etc.). When a category request is made of a URL that is not in the cache the agent contacts the BrightCloud Master Database via the BCAP protocol.
