Check Point and Riverbed have partnered to deliver best-of-breed WAN optimization and network security together on a single device: the Riverbed Steelhead Appliance. Specifically, Check Point’s Security Gateway R70™ with firewall and VPN functionality can be implemented on the Riverbed Services Platform (RSP). The partnership makes the most of the complementary capabilities of the two companies' technologies.

The Steelhead appliance optimizes the WAN through a combination of data streamlining to free up bandwidth, TCP protocol tuning, and application specific optimizations to overcome latency.  The RSP is a virtualized, extensible computing platform, allowing customers to deploy best-of-breed edge services directly on Steelhead appliances across their enterprise, eliminating the need for many office servers.  The RSP enables customers to further consolidate their hardware requirements, while still delivering a wide range of high quality local services such as printing, network management, and of course, security.  This helps simplify operations and control costs, without compromising on performance or functionality.
